It Wasn’t Supposed to Go This Way

It was supposed to be perfect, you always made sure, as the parent, you had everything taken care of. Their life was definitely going to be easier. You noticed your teen was thoughtful, sensitive, the “old soul.” It seemed like, in the past, your teen had been able to handle what came their way.

But now—

Your teen is shutting down

Your teen is anxious and you are worried about how to support them.

Your teen is a perfectionist and overworks themselves into so much stress that it feels unsustainable.

Maybe you and your spouse/partner got divorced or separated, lost a family member, had a big life change, faced the unimaginable, and you are watching your teen try to navigate school, friends, activities and all this other stuff and you feel at a loss watching them juggle it all.

You want life to be easier for them. You wish you could just swoop them up, fix it, and make it all better.

You are stumped. You feel helpless. Wherever you turn, everyone has a different opinion and judgment for you about how to handle your teen.

The worst part is the shame and guilt that sneaks into your mind. You always intended to do better than your parents, and now your very worst fear keeps creeping up into your mind—are you just repeating the same old pattern with your teen?

Start Therapy for Teen Anxiety in Connecticut and Virginia

First we will chat for a brief 15-minute consultation call to hear what is going on with your teen and schedule a parent intake session.

Next, we will meet for that parent intake session. I want to hear about what you have witnessed going on with your teen and within your family.

During our parent intake, we are going to break down together what you are observing and how we can tackle it as a team through therapy for teen anxiety.

During the beginning of our teen therapy, we will discuss my therapeutic style, establish how you and I can hold each other accountable in the treatment process, and create treatment goals together.

I work with parents/caregivers throughout the treatment process, utilizing a team-based approach to support you and your teen.

FAQ for Therapy for Teen Anxiety in Colchester, Connecticut and Falls Church, Virginia

  • Each teenager is different. Depending on the nature of anxiety, some teens may be in therapy for a few months, while others may need more time to address their needs. During a parent intake, I typically tell families to plan on their teen being in therapy for one year, understanding that it could very well be shorter or longer, depending on your teen’s needs.

  • In order for therapy to be successful, two things need to happen: 1) the teen needs to have a safe space to disclose and share their needs without fear of their trust being violated and 2) Under guidance of the law, my Code of Ethics, and state licensure (CT and VA) I will always inform parents/caregivers if I believe your teenager is threat to themself or others.

Please keep in mind that, when working with teens, I recommend monthly parent sessions. At these sessions, I am not able to disclose what your teen is sharing, but I can share themes from their sessions, discuss challenges you are facing with your teen, and support you as the parent in problem-solving those challenges as a team.

  • I work with teens ages 13 and up.

I do work with tweens (ages 10-12) on a case-by-case basis. If you feel your tween may be a good fit, please feel free to reach out and schedule a consult call here.

  • Therapy is a short-term investment for your teenager’s long-term healing and recovery.

As an out-of-network provider, I am able to offer you an invoice (called a Superbill) for reimbursement. How you get reimbursed depends on your insurance’s specific plan.

  • I offer online (or virtual) therapy sessions only through a HIPAA-compliant, secure video platform. I do not hold phone or in-person sessions for teen anxiety therapy.

I am licensed in Connecticut and Virginia only and am able to see individuals located/residing in those states.

  • Okay, let’s be a little blunt for a moment. Virtual school during a sudden pandemic was tough.

Online therapy for teens is nothing like virtual school during COVID. Online therapy is a one-on-one relationship focused entirely on your teen, helping them heal, supporting them in their growth. While virtual school was thrown together in the midst of chaos, doing the best that everyone could, online therapy is intentional, focused, and mindful.

Online therapy is also convenient. Are you a parent who’s driving around between work, errands, and your teen’s extracurricular activities? Adding another appointment to that to-do list is just exhausting. With online therapy, your teen is sent a secure link and they join their session from the comfort and ease of their private space.

  • When beginning therapy for teen anxiety, I ask that clients meet weekly. This allows us to build a more solid foundation, specifically with safety and trust in our relationship, and stronger coping strategies. Over time, we can adjust the frequency of how often we meet.

  • I am so excited to get to know you and your teen! Please reach out to me on mycontact page or book a consult call with me here so we can set up a parent intake session. I will respond within 48 hours.

Please note that all contacts between Fridays and Sundays will be returned the following Monday.

I can’t wait to meet you and your teen!
